Education
Jonathan Livingstone completed his BA (Hons) in English at Sussex University, his MA in Critical Theory at UC, Cardiff, and his PGCE in English at Oxford University.
Teaching
He has taught English at a sixth form college in England and in schools in the UK and abroad, including a specialist school for students with learning difficulties including dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism. He was Student Adviser at a progressive secondary school in Cape Town, where he helped students to overcome or manage learning difficulties and resolve emotional and relationship problems. He has also been head of a small school for looked after children.
Therapist & Coach
For 20 years Jonathan has worked as a solution-focused therapist and coach in the UK and South Africa. In South Africa he worked therapeutically with young people from townships in the Western Cape. After the Asian tsunami he helped villagers overcome their fears in the affected region of Tamil Nadu. He has also worked at a rehab in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape. Jonathan is author of two books, The Therapist Within You
(Lemniscate, 2009), and Relearning Experience: To Resolve Emotional Problems (Lemniscate, 18 June 2019), and of many articles in newspapers and magazines. Co-author of 'Racism and the Limits of Radical Feminism', Race & Class, 1985 (reprinted in Understanding Curriculum as Racial Text
(ed. Louis A. Castenell and William F. Pinar, SUNY, 1993), Jonathan Livingstone has a particular interest in issues of inclusivity ('diversity'), and works with people of any background or orientation.
